MIDDLE POINT HOME TELEPHONE COMPANY

Serving the Middle Point Community since 1903

On November 3, 1903 The Middle Point Telephone Company and the Middle Point Southern Telephone Company merged to become The Middle Point Home Telephone Company.

Until 1968, calls went out through a 1919 switchboard as each subscriber operated a crank telephone to contact the operator.   The cutover to dial service that eliminated the need for a local operator was made in 1968.  The company spent $100,000 for a new building and the updating of lines, cables & switching installations.

On March 31, 1989 the latest in electronic digital technology was placed into service to provide the Middle Point area with additional services such as touch tone dialing, call waiting, call forwarding, speed calling and much more.

In 1991, renovation of the existing building took place to include the present office. In 1993 The Middle Point Home Telephone Company joined with 17 other small Ohio Telephone Companies and formed a new company called “COM-NET”.  This company provides access to the internet through the marketing name of bright.net.  In 1994 The Middle Point Home, Fort Jennings, Vaughnsville, Kalida, Ottovile and Glandorf Telephone companies founded North West Net to market the bright.net internet service to Van Wert, Putman and Allen counties.

Today the company uses the latest in technology and equipment to provide service to the community such as custom calling features, dial-up internet access and high speed internet service.  Middle Point along with COM-NET and several other independent telephone companies are currently constructing a fiber ring.  The addition of this ring will provide future growth and opportunities for us to service our customers even more.
